Reddy to Rock
Towards the end of 2021, I developed a logotype and logomark design set, as well as some business cards, for a local musician starting up his own music school for children wanting to learn how to play the guitar.
My client, Redmond, approached me without knowing what to name his business, so I provided him with some suggestions and he loved the idea of ‘Reddy to Rock’ - which is a play on words that incorporates his own name, as well as the notion that his students will be ready to play guitars with confidence through his teaching.
With the business name decided, I began working on some concepts for the logo design that was targeted towards a younger audience. Redmond wanted the logo to be family-friendly to attract kids and their parents, but also for it to have a professional look that could entice adults that want to learn too.
Both my client and I really liked the concept with the guitar pick bordering around the business name and the abstract ‘rock on’ hand symbol above it. I recreated the hand symbol in Adobe Illustrator and experimented with different font styles and combinations.
I presented a range of my strongest logo options for my client to choose from, and then proceeded with developing and refining his preferred options. We both felt the more simplistic designs without the extra elements (the slogan, ‘Est. 2021’ tag etc.) worked best, and the bolder font was the more captivating option for the business name.
Redmond liked the logotype with the guitar pick as the main design, but also wanted a more horizontal design for other purposes, so I provided him with a set of two logotypes and one logomark for his new business.
We then picked out a specific colour scheme from the Pantone Solid Coated formula guide for his music school business, resulting in the brand identity having a combination of a bluish-black (PMS Black 6 C), cherry red (PMS 206 C), white and a cool grey (PMS 427 C).
“I couldn't have done it without Calvin and his business, Caligature. Ever since we started, he hasn't missed a step. Cal has been so patient with my requests and open to all my ideas, whilst also keeping my best interests at heart. I honestly never thought I could have such a detailed and professional look to a guitar teaching business, but here we are, and now presenting this to customers will have me in the same conversations as the best music schools going around.
After all of this, I can't thank Calvin enough. His work has honestly made this dream of mine come true. I can't recommend him enough and I couldn't be happier with the service provided and final product.”
